Loop systems enable some hearing aid users to hear better.

Large loop systems are fitted in public places, e.g. theatres and churches. You may also find them at shop counters, banks and building. The ear symbol (opposite) indicates a loop system is present.

Small loop systems are used for home use. They are excellent for amplifying the sound from television and radio without disturbing others.

Loop systems consists of a loop wire and a microphone which are connected to an amplifier. The amplifier is plugged into the mains. The loop wire is fitted around the edge of the room. When the hearing aid is in the 'T' position (the other two positions are 'O' for OFF and 'M' for ON), it is disconnected but a small loop inside the hearing aid is connected.
