Loop systems enable some
hearing aid users to hear better.
Large loop systems are fitted in public places, e.g. theatres and churches. You
may also find them at shop counters, banks and building. The ear symbol (opposite)
indicates a loop system is present.
Small loop systems are used for home use. They are excellent for amplifying the
sound from television and radio without disturbing others.
Loop systems consists of a loop wire and a microphone which are connected to an
amplifier. The amplifier is plugged into the mains. The loop wire is fitted around
the edge of the room. When the hearing aid is in the 'T' position (the other two
positions are 'O' for OFF and 'M' for ON), it is disconnected but a small loop
inside the hearing aid is connected. So when the loop is switched on it uses the
amplifier and microphone to turn sound into magnetic signals which are transmitted
to the hearing aid
