Coping Strategies

Many hearing impaired people feel isolated and left out of conversations. In a lipreading group it is important that everyone feels included and can participate.

The lipreading tutor will use various ways to achieve this. A loop system is used most weeks (read more about loop systems). In addition there is lots of repetition and speech is
confirmed by writting on a board or a flip-chart. Sometimes finger spelling is used as an aid.

Joining a lipreading group and meeting others in the same situation can help towards coping more positively with hearing loss. Age is not a barrier and you are never too old to try
